Privacy policy

Data processed

The videos you upload, their transcript, the generated edit plan and the output files; your IP address (abuse prevention); and, when you sign in with Google, your Google ID, your verified email address and your first name. We never receive your password, your contacts or access to your Google files.

Purpose and legal basis

Producing the edit you request and emailing you the link to your video (performance of the service, GDPR article 6.1.b). No other use: no advertising, no newsletter, no resale, no model training.

Retention

All files of a project are deleted automatically 72 hours after editing is complete. Footage uploaded without an edit being started is deleted after 6 hours. Your account (email address, first name) and the history of your edits (date, file names, title, duration, status — not the videos) are shown in your account area; they are kept for 12 months after your last activity, and you can delete them at any time from that page. The sign-in session is a signed cookie valid for 30 days, cleared when you sign out (sign out). Technical logs are kept for 30 days at most.

Processors

Transcription and rendering run on our servers. To write the edit plan, the transcript text and a contact sheet of reduced images are sent to an artificial intelligence model provider acting as a GDPR processor. It may be located outside the European Union: this transfer is covered by the safeguards provided by the GDPR (European Commission standard contractual clauses). The provider commits not to use this data to train its models. Cutaway searches only send keywords to a royalty-free stock library. Notification emails are sent through an email delivery provider acting as a processor. The current list of processors is available on request.

Optional survey

While your video renders, we may ask you a few optional questions (type of videos, editing time, price, how you found us, rating, a suggestion). Each answer can be skipped. Answers are stored with a pseudonymous identifier derived from your account (never your email address), to improve the service (legitimate interest, GDPR article 6.1.f), and deleted after 12 months. The "Later" button is remembered only for your browsing session, in your browser.

Cookies

Montia only uses two strictly necessary cookies, exempt from consent: the sign-in session, and a 10-minute temporary cookie that secures the return from Google. No tracking cookies or third-party analytics. Visits are counted by our own server without any cookie: page, referring site, language and device type, with a daily visitor fingerprint (IP address and browser combined with a key that changes every day, never stored as such), which cannot identify you or follow you from one day to the next. When you arrive from one of our ads, the campaign name in the link ("utm" parameters) is kept in your browser for the duration of the visit (session storage, cleared when the tab is closed) and attached to your project if you upload footage, to measure how well our ads perform; no advertising pixel or cookie is used. These statistics are kept for 13 months.
